The Orville Looks to Put Fun Twist on SciFi

Multi-talented Seth MacFarlane and director John Favreau have teamed up to bring what hopes to be funny science fiction to our big screen TV's.

One hour episodes will follow the escapades of the crew of the U.S.S. Orville (does the CGI look vaguely Galaxy Quest-like?) as they explore the galaxy, albeit in a very dysfunctional way. Some of what is shown in the preview appears to be a bit cliche'd though, coming close to the same running jokes we've seen in sitcoms for years.

The captain, Planetary Union officer Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), finally gets his chance to command, His ex-wife, Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki), is surprisingly assigned as his First Officer.

The rest of the crew includes helmsman Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes),  Dr. Claire Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald), Bortus (Peter Macon), Isaac (Mark Jackson), navigator John Lamarr (J. Lee), Alara Kitan (Halston Sage) and Yaphit, a gelatinous creature voiced by comedian Norm MacDonald.

All of this should add up to some cheezy scifi fun while taking jabs at some tried and true science fiction favorites. Look for The Orville on Fox this Fall.
